What happens when your global story returns to the soil where it first took root?

A few days ago, I had the privilege of finding out.

Some dreams take years to form, but when they finally unfold, they remind you why the wait was worth it. Five years ago, a dream was conceived. Last year, it took shape. And on my 45th birthday, it was finally born.

My book, Local to Global: My Career Mosaic of Growth Beyond Borders, officially launched in Lisbon — and what a beautiful beginning it was.

But the story didn’t end there.

On November 22, that journey came home, with a deeply special homecoming edition in the soulful city of Lagos, Nigeria.

Both moments were powerful in different ways. Lisbon was the birthplace of the book. Lagos was the return to roots.

The Lisbon launch was more than an event — it was a celebration in many dimensions.

A celebration of support systems.
My husband Ugo and our daughters were my rock through it all, and the presence of family made the moment deeply personal.

A celebration of community.
Despite moody weather, people showed up — family, colleagues, church members, the Nigerian community, friends, and even first-time connections. A beautifully diverse room that reminded me that community is true wealth.

A celebration of journeys and connections.
Seeing how far we’ve all come reaffirmed that while life evolves, meaningful connections remain timeless.

And yes, we launched “abroad” with unmistakable Nigerian flair — music, laughter, jollof rice, puff-puff, and joy. In true Ada style, it was warm, vibrant, and deeply human.

One of the most sacred moments was signing each copy. Every autograph felt like passing on a spark of possibility.

Then came Lagos — the homecoming.

A day of celebrating journeys, honouring roots, and appreciating the community that shaped me.

Family, ex-colleagues, neighbours, church members, the HR community, mentees, and friends gathered to celebrate one of their own. Having my dear friend Isioma Laju Okolo moderate and my brother Obinna Asagwara anchor the unveiling added a deeply personal touch.

Coming home reminded me of something powerful:
Identity is my anchor, and community is my fuel.

My Local to Global story began in Nigeria. And although I’ve lived and worked across borders, evolving in identity and perspective, I remain proudly Nigerian and truly African.

To the young Nigerian (and African) stepping into global spaces, my hope is that this journey gives you:

The courage to own your identity and voice everywhere you go.
The confidence to navigate global spaces without shrinking yourself.
The wisdom to adapt without losing your authenticity.

A reminder that success isn’t just professional milestones — it’s meaningful connections, owning your narrative, and creating space for others.

And most importantly, the sense of possibility:
You can lead and thrive globally.

This book is deeply personal — a reflection on change, culture, leadership, ambition, bouncebacks, self-growth, and motherhood. It carries lived insights from navigating life’s transitions while building a borderless career.

The launches may be done, but the journey is only beginning.

If you’re navigating transitions, culture, leadership, ambition, or motherhood and want real, lived insights, I invite you to read:
